Current Colorado Springs Construction Projects
There’s currently a lot of construction going on around the Springs. From the big South Academy Blvd road project to park updates, I’m going to go over a few of the most notable projects that are currently under construction (according to Coloradosprings.gov).
South Academy Blvd
Where? S. Academy Boulevard between Bijou Street and Airport Road, and between East Fountain Boulevard and Jet Wing Drive (18 lane miles).
Estimated Completion Date? 2025
What to expect after completion?
A smoother, more comfortable driving surface
Reduction and/or elimination of ponding water on the roadway surface
Improved pedestrian accessibility
Powers Blvd Extension Project
Where? Voyager Pkwy. between the Powers on- and off-ramps
Why? Construction of an overpass as part of the future Powers Boulevard Extension Project.
Estimated Completion Date? The closure is expected to last into the fall of 2024. The intent of the District is to open Voyager Parkway to traffic prior to the opening of the new Sunset Amphitheater.
Marksheffle Road Improvements
Where? Marsheffle between North Carefree Circle and Dublin Blvd.
Why? Expand the existing 2-lane section
Estimated Completion Date? 2026
What to expect after completion?
Enhance safety by providing designated space for drivers, walkers and cyclists
Reduce congestion by adding an additional lane in each direction and turn lanes at intersections
Improve mobility by eliminating congestion points
Upgrade Marksheffel Road using current design and safety standards
Improve driver sight distance by leveling out hills and dips in the roadway
Circle Drive Bridges Replacement Project
Where? Circle Drive between Janitell Road to the south and Monterey Road to the north.
Why? Replacement of these key connector bridges that were originally constructed in 1963.
Estimated Completion Date? Fall 2025
Antlers Dog Park
Where? Antlers Park.
Why? A new downtown dog park.
